This is how Paul writes it, “For God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29 Christ Jesus came as fire on the Day of Pentecost to cleanse and prepare the body in which He is going to become the head. Fire is cleansing. Fire also destroys. We often sing it some through the water, some through the blood, some through the fire……, but have we ever took the time to figure out what we’ve been singing? Like too, many people today just follow the crowd aimlessly down a road without any reason.
How is the fire working in your life? When the Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost, He did not come to be an outward expression. He came to be an inner working to change the heart of man. He did not come to display how Spiritual we have become. All the outward expression of the Holy Spirit in the early church came as a result of the inner working in each person’s life. The inner working of the fire of God produced the power to do the miracles. John the Baptist proclaimed: “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:” Matthew 3:11 Hallelujah
After we receive the initial baptism of the Holy Spirit, then as we yield to change God needs to make in our lives, then the fire of God begins to burn away the chaff and all the excess in our lives. The prophet Malachi prophesied this cleansing fire: “And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” Malachi 3:3 The sons of Levi are the priesthood sons who are God’s ministers in this last hour of time. Our offering before our God is righteousness — not our righteousness, but the righteousness of Christ. You see brethren all our righteousness is nothing in God’s sight. Until God has made that change in your life from the inside out and the world can testify of you, then you need to stay at the cross until that change comes. God’s purifying fire is ever present if we allow it to work. Job is an example of God’s fire purifying a son in order to give him the Double Portion anointing. Job declared: “But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10 Job knew God knew what it would take to purify him as transparent gold, with nothing hidden that would bring justice in his life. If we are to stand before the throne as transparent gold, then the fire of God must do its complete work. Yes, our God is a consuming fire to consume all the chaff and excess from our lives so we as Job can come forth as gold.
