Businessman charged with fraud

This show villa which was built in 2012 in front of the lagoon is no longer the attraction piece. It has been stripped of all of its windows, doors and internal fittings.

THE BUSINESSMAN behind two abandoned Barbados resorts has been charged with fraud in Britain.

The alleged activity by David Ames, the chairman of the Harlequin Group of Companies, occurred between January, 2010, and June, 2015.

Harlequin halted construction at its properties Merricks Resort, St Philip and H Boutique Hotel in Hastings, Christ Church, in 2013 after it became involved in financial and legal battles in Britain and Ireland.

The firm sold luxury properties on planned resorts in Barbados and other Caribbean destinations. However, British reports say only a handful were built, and most investors had been left without either their capital or any of the promised returns.
