Come let us reason together says the Lord.
I am grateful to Almighty God for this wonderful privilege where I can encourage a soul. I am also Thankful to The Patriarch Dr Godfrey Gregg for this Blessed Opportunity.
Our decisions will have lasting consequences one way or the other. I want to encourage us from the book of Genesis 12:1-3.
Abraham and Sarah are considered persons of great faith, yet at times their faith appeared nonexistent. I don’t know about you, but that could very well be me. One day I’m trusting God completely and the next day I’m fretting and worrying. I’d like to think that if I had physical encounters and verbal conversations with God, as Abraham and Sarah did, that my faith would never again waiver and I would always act in obedience. But in spite of their ups and downs, God used this couple mightily.
God told Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to a new country. There the Lord would make him into a great nation, bless him, make his name great, make him a blessing, bless those who blessed him, curse those who cursed him and bless all the families of the earth through him. Beloved, can you imagine? God identifies Himself, speaks to you, lays out His plan and gives you His word. You just have to wait as He fulfils those promises.
Abraham was up in age, childless and married to a woman who was barren. I’m sure he wondered why God was waiting so long to start fulfilling His promises. How would God make anation through him? When would the babies start to come?
Today I want to remind us that God delights in working through us when all seems impossible. We all know that there are consequences to our actions. What we do can set into motion a series of events that may continue long after we are gone. Unfortunately, when we are making a decision, most of us think only of the immediate consequences.
Abraham had a choice to make. His decision was between setting out with his family and belongings for parts unknown or staying right where he was. He had to decide between the security of what he already had and the uncertainty of travelling under God’s direction. All he had to go on was God’s promise to guide and bless him. I am sure Abraham could hardly have been expected to visualize how much of the future was resting on his decision whether to go or stay, but his obedience affected the history of the world. His decision to follow God set into motion the development of the nation that God will eventually use as His own when he visited earth himself.
When Jesus Christ came to earth, God’s promise was fulfilled. Hallelujah!!! Through Abraham, the entire world was blessed. Folks, you probably don’t know the long term effects of most decision you make. So my question to us, shouldn’t the fact that there will be long term results cause us to think carefully and seek God’s guidance as we make choices and take action today?
Abraham’s faith pleased God. Abraham Believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Trust in
the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thy own understanding. Abraham believed God, Abraham trusted in God’s promises, Abraham didn’t lean on his own understanding, but He acknowledged and believe God’s word. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God.
You and I can learn from Abraham’s obedience to God. My prayer is that God will speak to us through His word every day and that we will gain new knowledge. May God Bless us continually and may our Faith and Confidence in Him remain unshakeable. AMEN
