It’s mildly amusing to think of serving angels dinner: “You guys it, right? How about some more angel-hair pasta? And You’ll never guess what we’ve got for dessert!” The idea is that you would do a better job of hosting angels than you would someone you’ve never met, whom you might or might not like. However, even though angels are on a higher plane of existence than you are, they are not the pinnacle of God’s creation-people are.
It’s hard to think of that woman with the cardboard sign that you gave a bottle of water and five bucks to this morning as the pinnacle of anything or Your unemployed brother-in-law who sleeps on Your couch and eats all Your leftovers, for that matter. But that’s because you’re still learning to see them through God’s lens.
God uses some pretty serious filters to look at you; the best ones show you washed white by Christ’s blood. He sees all people as potential royalty-sons and daughters of the kingdom-and as potential royalty-sons and daughters of the kingdom and that’s how He wants you to see them too. The promise of salvation is often kept because of a believer’s kindness to strangers.
